Skin Care Favorites

Have I mentioned that it's only T minus 10 days until Parker drives out here on my last day of work and we load up our things for the big move back to Fargo?! Although it's most likely obvious already, you should probably not come to expect daily blog posts in the coming 10 days. Between long work days, packing, organizing, and cleaning I have not had a ton of time for blogging - not to mention, sometimes the last thing I want to do is look at a computer screen after all of that! So thanks for hanging in there lately and still stopping by when a post does happen to grace the blog :) I also have not been reading my book or eating many dinners that aren't frozen so at least you can know the blog is not the only thing being a little neglected. Now, today I'm super excited to have Cait guest-posting about her favorite skin care products!

Hey y'all. I'm Cait. I blog over at My Life As A Long. Big thanks to Samantha for letting me stop by today. I'm by no means a fashion or beauty blogger. If I am being completely honest, my daily outfit is a pair of jeans, flip flops, and a company t-shirt with my hair pulled in a bun with no make up. Obviously I love sleeping until the last minute don't I? I do take my skin very seriously though. My teenage years were full of acne, and while I have mostly grown out of it, if I don't take extra care of my face and skin, I will break out again.

So while this may not work for others, it works for me. I love reading about other blogs that share their favorite things, so I figured I would share my favorite skin care favorites. The list is long, and I don't use all of these daily. Most of the time, I mix and match so to speak. Thankfully though, I have found brands and products I love and I stick to them.

7 // 8 // 9 // 10 // 11

First up is sunscreen. I use this for overall coverage whenever I am outside. I know, I know. the 100+ SPF does nothing extra, but I like it, and I have yet to get burnt while using it, so I stick to it. I use this for my face. My big problem is finding something that won't make my face feel icky, or make it extra oily. I just recently started using this one, and I love it. I always make sure I keep a bottle of this in my purse so I can add a little if I am out in the sun too long.

Next up is lotion. I have a ton of bath and body works lotion, and I use it, but for every day use, I use this. I've been using it for years. I even keep a mini bottle in my car. I use it after every shower, and most nights before bed. I also use this on my elbows, hands, and feet before bed. I don't remember how I ended up with it, but I love it. My feet are always extra dry because I hate wearing shoes, so this is really great. I also make sure to use this nightly around my eyes.

As far as my face goes, I love the Yes To! line. I have used most all of their products at one point or another and I love most of them all. For my face, I am a huge fan of the Yes To Tomatoes line though. I keep the scrub in the shower and I use it daily. I use the gel cleanser in the evenings.
For the face wipes and freshen spray, I use the spray when I have a little more time on my hands, and I use the wipes when I am crunched for time. You can also bet that the wipes are packed away in my work out bag. I have tired all the Yes To! face wipes, and the blueberry are my favorite. They do a great job at removing my make up as well.

I usually only use the moisturizer a very little at a time, and I use it usually every other night, or every third night. If I use it too often, or I use too much, my face becomes oily fast. I also like to treat myself and use the mask every so often. When I buy the scrub at Target, they usually are including one mask free. Since my husband and I both use the scrub, we go through it twice as quick as if it was just me using it, so I keep a little collection of the single use face masks, and when I get a little me time, I pamper myself.

What are some of your skin care favorites?

Thanks again to Samantha for letting me be on her blog today.

Blogger Men Tell All [Link-Up #2]

And it's time for Round 2 of Blogger Men Tell All! Round 1 was so fun, I've been looking forward to reading round 2 posts for weeks. Blogger Men Tell All is a monthly link-up with myself, Becca, and Melissa that we started as a way to get our guys involved in this awesome blog life. It happens on the last Tuesday of the month and all your man has to do to participate is answer 5 simple questions.

blogger men tell all link-up, men tell all, blog link-ups, tuesday link-ups, get your man on your blog, blogger men tell all

It's fun, easy, and such a great way to let our men make a mark on our blogs. After round 1 I told myself that I would make sure to give Parker the questions further ahead of time so I could hopefully get a bit less rushed (read: more than 5 word) answers. Oh, and then life happened and I texted him a screenshot of the questions last night and he texted me the answers back in less than 5 minutes. Oh well, there's always round 3 in the future to improve with. But, I'd say the length and complexity of his answers are definitely improving... :)

1 || Is Halloween your favorite holiday? If not, what is?

Halloween is not my favorite holiday. My favorite is Christmas or my birthday... Why?.... I get prime rib for Christmas and whatever I want to eat on my birthday.

(I think the important lesson to learn hear is that birthdays are not technically holidays...)

2 || What will you be dressing up as for Halloween this year?

I am going as a hockey coach, since I will be in a tournament over Halloween.

3 || What is your go-to drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)?

Non-alchy: 1919 Root Beer all the way. Alchy: Whiskey Ginger OR John Collins with muddled oranges/lemons and whiskey.

(No offense, honey, but this does make you sound just a liiiiittle high-maintenance. "Muddled"?

4 || What is your favorite scary movie?

I hate scary movies.

(This is true; we never watch scary movies. Mostly because we both purposefully fall asleep so it doesn't become too obvious how scared we actually are. Either that, or I watch through my hands that I'm covering my eyes with.)

5 || What is your best Halloween memory?

My best memory is when I was trick-or-treating in 7th grade... found a house that was giving out pop... My 3 friends and I changed into each other's costumes to go back 4 times to get pop... things were good back then.

(This is 100% his favorite memory because I think I've heard that story maybe 47 times :) )

Be sure to stop by on November 18th for Round 3 Questions and link-up with us for the 3rd round on November 25th. Now have your man answer the questions, grab our button, link-up below, and enjoy reading some of the (bound-to-be-funny) BMTA posts!

It All Started When I Forgot My Planner

So Sunday was going great: Once we finally got out of bed Parker went to work, I met a friend for coffee, then I drove the 4 hours home to start the work week (remember I only have 12 more work days of being separate from my husband!) I got home and was relaxing on the couch until I got a text from Parker:

You forgot your planner...

And then it had an emoji at the end that basically implied ooooooooh shiiiiit. It's that iPhone emoji where the eyes are googly and wide-eyed and you can't tell if he's supposed to be blushing or, like in this case, thinking "oh shit".

I immediately called him, duh. It's my busiest week at work! I had things written down on this week already! This is because by the time Monday comes around my to-do list for a week is basically full already because of everything I didn't get done the week before. What am I going to do?!

when you lose your planner, when you forget your planner, not having your planner for a week, erin condren planner
source

He offered to mail it to me - what a sweetheart; that's true love right there. I just asked if he could take a picture of last week and this week in the planner so I can refer to it still - you guys, seriously, I think I have a control problem. Maybe some of you think I'm crazy for reacting like this and maybe some of you don't even use a planner. I wish I was kidding or exaggerating this reaction but this is basically how it went down. That 2014 Erin Condren planner goes with me everywhere and that was not a great start to my week.

And it's not just any week - it's probably one of my busiest weeks at work out of the whole year. We have inventory to get prepped for our year-end at the end of this month so it's organizing, counting, billing, listing, searching... It's the end of everything we've been working toward for the past 12 months and it's been busy. And on top of all that, I don't even have my planner!

So I basically used one piece of paper to make a pathetic little planner for the week. I haven't even been adding that many things to my to-do list because it's just been such a crazy week. And if you set small, achievable goals there won't be any disappoint, right? I probably shouldn't ever be any sort of motivational speaker. Anyway, these are my small, achievable goals for this week:
  • Wake up on time.
  • Drink enough coffee in the morning to actually make me feel awake.
  • Write a blog post if there's time in a day.
  • Accomplish at least one thing each night after going home from my 10+ hour work day - watching a tv show that I have recorded does count.
  • Pack one box or area.
  • Watch my recorded tv shows.
  • Get dressed, blow-dried, and ready each morning.
  • Be happy.
I think I've done fairly well, especially under the planner-less circumstances. I probably could do better on the first one, considering I've woken up at least 30 minutes late each day this week. And now it's time to go get some coffee - because it's on my to-do list.

Blogger Men Tell All [Round 2 Questions]

I am so excited to be introducing Round 2 questions for our Blogger Men Tell All link-up because Round 1 was so much fun! Blogger Men Tell All is a monthly link-up with me, Becca, and Melissa that we started as a way to get our guys involved in this awesome blog life. The link-up happens on the last Tuesday of the month and all your man has to do to participate is answer 5 simple questions that will be introduced the week before.

Easy, right? Fun, right? Good excuse to share incriminating photos that you have stashed in your iPhone library, right? Right, right, and right. Let's do this, shall we?

blogger men tell all, monthly link-up, blog link-ups, tuesday blog link-ups, blog linky parties, tuesday blog linky party, blogger men tell all link-up, get your man involved with your blog, make your husband write your blog, blog posts for your husband

The second link-up will be next Tuesday, October 28th and it's all about the season of Fall and Halloween. He can participate by answering the following questions:
  • Is Halloween your favorite holiday? If not, what is?
  • What will you be dressing up as for Halloween this year?
  • What is your go-to drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)?
  • What is your favorite scary movie?
  • What is your best Halloween memory?
blogger men tell all link-up, men tell all, blog link-ups, tuesday link-ups, get your man on your blog, blogger men tell all

Can't wait to read all the posts next week!! Let me know if you have any questions. I plan on giving Parker the questions more than 24 hours in advance this time in the hopes that I will get answers more than 5 words long :)

Dancing Is My Cardio

wedding dance, college friends, friends getting married, college friends getting back together, getting back together with college friends, another friends gets married, october weddings, #wedding #octoberwedding

Dancing is my cardio, or at least it feels like that because I am tired and sore from gettin jiggy with it on the dance floor all night long on Saturday night. One of our friends from college got married and we were reunited with college friends that we haven't seen in years. It's a little sad actually to think about how much a part of your life these people were and then we let years go by without even seeing each other.

I think we all made a vow to get our group together once a year, no matter where it is. I say I think because we made this promise to each other after 9:00pm on Saturday at the wedding dance so you know how that goes... But maybe we'll even rotate where the get-together is so that the same people don't have to travel every year. Do you plan a yearly get-together with old friends at all so you can stay in touch?

wedding dance, college friends, friends getting married, college friends getting back together, getting back together with college friends, another friends gets married, october weddings, #wedding #octoberwedding

All I kept thinking to myself is we are so lucky. We are so lucky to have the friends that we do, even if we don't get to talk every week or see each other often. We became friends with these people at 18 years old. They were with us the first time we got drunk. They were the ones we did all the college festivities with. They were the ones we vented to about our boyfriends, who are now our husbands. They are family. They have seen us at our worst, they have seen us at our best, and they love us no matter what. You can't beat friends like that.

Needless to say, Sunday was unproductive but that's ok. Life is short and I plan on enjoying it with the people that I love. Now after having 2 wedding weekends in a row, I'm looking forward to being a little less socially-busy next weekend :) How was your weekend? Have you been having beautiful October weather too? It's supposed to be in the 70s here all week which, for North Dakota, is basically a miracle!

Coffee Date

Oh hey, blog! I almost forgot what this is like since I've basically been MIA this week. I explained on Tuesday how my weekend kind of ran a little long because I was at a few different locations for work on Monday and didn't get home until late in the day. Then (as Nina liked to call it) blogpocalypse happened.... dun dun dun

Internet was down, no socializing on different forms of media, no internet radio - I almost felt like I was back in 2006, but at least in 2006 I didn't know what I was missing. You'd think with the internet down and no blogcabilities I would've gotten a lot of packing, cleaning, or organizing done - you would be wrong. Catching up on last week's episodes of my tv shows sounded a lot more fun. Thankfully I did (barely) survive the blogpocalypse and will never take Pandora for granted again. Now I'm thinking since it's been so long, we need to catch up a bit over coffee. Actually, we should just meet for a drink because it's Friday and, well, #yolo.

coffee date, friday blog post idea, coffee date post, if we were having coffee i'd tell you, coffee date confessions, friday blog post ideas, friday posts, coffee date posts

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... that I'm super excited for the wedding that we have this weekend because it means getting some of our best college friends back together again. Some of them I haven't even seen for years because they moved after graduation so I'm really looking forward to catching up - I feel so old when catching up with somebody means hearing about their houses, jobs, babies .... grown-up things. When did that happen? I swear just yesterday we were having drinks before heading to the homecoming football game.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... I'm all for freedom in the USA, the right to vote, and being knowledgable about what you are voting for. But is it so much to ask for the debates to stay in their allotted 1-hour time frame and not make me miss the first 15 minutes of Law & Order SVU? I don't think so.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... it's frustrating how some things are just out of our control. I mean, you can do your best and make the most of something, but there are some things for which we just need to have trust in God's plan. I know this and I understand this, but it's still frustrating.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... after today I officially have 15 work days left here! 15 days, I can hardly believe it. It gives me a mix of emotions - happy, so happy because I can't wait to be back home in Fargo where Parker already is! Proud, because lots of things have happened in our past 2 years here and I'm proud of the things that have changed and how we've grown. And even a little sad, just because it's always a little sad when a time in your life comes to an end.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... my newest Thursday night ritual has become packing up some things and pre-loading the car before sitting down to watch some of my favorite shows. Wow, how old and boring do I sound?

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... thank you for all your tips last week on how to survive without a hair dryer. I mentioned that I left mine in Fargo the weekend before and didn't have one for an entire week. Since there were a few questions on how I dealt with this, I will share my tricks. I like to call it the lazy method: Shower, towel-dry, DO NOT COMB OR BRUSH, find your part, spray hairspray all over, scrunch hair and tousle with fingertips. Late in the day you can pull back into a ponytail if you feel like a wet dog. You're welcome.

If we were having coffee I'd tell you... I'm thankful for your friendship and have a happy weekend! I'm off to shower so I have enough time to dry and straighten today :)

Weekend Recap + Starbucks Giveaway

I spent yesterday stopping at a different one of our locations for work and driving home so I feel like I'm just getting back into the groove of things today. Which means it feels like Monday, even though it's Tuesday - that's a nice little surprise at least.

Friday: I had Friday off since we needed to head out of town for my cousin's wedding. I took my time in the morning, we grabbed some lunch before leaving, and we headed off to Breezy Point for the weekend. Our Zorbaz closes for the season on Halloween so that will probably be the final blue marg, till next year.

Raw

I came down to the lake yesterday afternoon because we leave today to head to my cousin's wedding at Breezy Point in Minnesota. The drive down was one of the most beautiful drives I've ever taken. It was 50 and sunny so I had the sunroof open, shades on, and tunes cranked while I tried to memorize all the beauty around me. The sun was reflecting off the open water and the leaves were a million different shades of red, orange, yellow, and green. It was one of those times when you wish you could be recording your life because that is something I never want to forget.

When I finally got to the lake I knew I needed to try to take some pictures. I say "try" because I just don't think you can ever photograph such beauty. I mean, you can do your best but a photo doesn't capture the crisp, fall breeze or the warmth of the fall sun on your face.

This morning I popped my memory card in my computer and opened up my editing software, ready to get these edited and posted on the blog. I didn't change a thing. I decided they don't need editing. They'll just stay raw.

raw photos, unedited photos, no filter, be yourself, I never thought blogging would, what blogging does for me, the perks of blogging, why I love blogging, how to be yourself, stop worrying about what other people think, embrace yourself, be real, #rawphotos #nofilter #uneditedphotos

It's not common anymore to see something in it's raw form. We have PicMonkey for blog photos, Photoshop, and even VSCOCam on your iPhone. I'm sure 99% of photos in our Instagram feeds have some sort of filter applied or saturation increased - and if not, #nofilter will tell you it's not edited. Why wouldn't we want to make our skin look tanner or more perfect? Why wouldn't we want the sunset colors to be more distinct? The tools are there so we might as well use them.

raw photos, unedited photos, no filter, be yourself, I never thought blogging would, what blogging does for me, the perks of blogging, why I love blogging, how to be yourself, stop worrying about what other people think, embrace yourself, be real, #rawphotos #nofilter #uneditedphotos

But there's something refreshing about being in raw form - whether it be our photos or even ourselves. Being raw is not perfect, but it's relatable. It's real. And it's honest.
raw photos, unedited photos, no filter, be yourself, I never thought blogging would, what blogging does for me, the perks of blogging, why I love blogging, how to be yourself, stop worrying about what other people think, embrace yourself, be real, #rawphotos #nofilter #uneditedphotos

Looking at my pictures got me thinking. They were already so beautiful I didn't want to edit or change them. It's like blogging, really. We sit at our computers to just write and sometimes it's things that we don't even tell people in our "real" lives. We're unedited and we write in a completely raw form. And someone, somewhere can relate. Someone, somewhere is supportive and encouraging. It's refreshing to be real and honest and just be ourselves. I think that's what keeps us coming back every day. I never thought blogging would be that for me.

I love to edit photos and I'm certainly not suggesting that we stop. But I'm going to try to be more raw in my real life and stop worrying about what other people think. I challenge you to do the same.

This is who I am - unedited and not perfect. Take it or leave it.

5 Confessions From The Heart [ + AD SALE ]

confessions, blogger confessions, photo from jamaica trip, when you get blogger's block, for writer's block, when you don't know what to write, change can be good, anxiety with change, living separate from your spouse, when you don't know what to blog about
photo from our Jamaica trip {March 2014}
Confession #1

Lately, I've been looking forward to sitting down in front of my computer, reading blogs, writing posts, getting lost in this thing while the evening passes by quickly... And then I sit down, open my computer, pull up blogger, and I'm stuck. Just stuck. Like when you're sitting at a green light but traffic is so backed up you can't even cross to the other side of the intersection. I kind of feel like there are so many thoughts in my head that I just can't formulate any of them into words worthy of a blog post. So then I just don't post - see: yesterday.

I blame moving, and the fact that Parker's there and I'm here, and the fact that work is busy and so is every single weekend until the end of the month. But girl please, you need to pull it together here. Is this writer's block? I've never really considered myself a writer, so maybe this is just more of a blogger's block... Either way, it's getting annoying and needs to stop.

Confession #2

I miss Parker. And then I feel guilty for missing him so much because other couples do this all.the.time and for MUCH longer periods of time. But reminding myself of that fact is not making it any easier.

Confession #3
I hate driving in the dark and it's getting to the time of year where that happens more often - the days are getting shorter and the sun sets shortly after 7:00 pm. This obviously doesn't bode well for my 4-hour drive home that starts at the end of the work day every Friday. It's also deer season and considering what happened last year, I'm scared to death of deer season.
Confession #4

I left my hair dryer in Fargo on Sunday and now I am sitting here with my hair in a turban-like towel look, wondering exactly what I'm going to do here. A straightener doesn't work so well on wet or damp hair and I'm not sure my neck can withstand the whiplash required to air-dry this mess by the time I have to get to work.

Confession #5

I feel like I am a constant jealous emotion lately - jealous of Parker living in Fargo; jealous of friends with dogs or babies; jealous of skinny people; jealous of friends who can afford houses; jealous of people who sleep through the night because when Parker's gone I wake up multiple times convinced someone is breaking in - it goes on. Jealousy is exhausting.

I don't like change, hence the anxiety I'm feeling with all the changes happening right now. But lots of times, change is good. We need change in order to grow in life, in order to move on to bigger and better things, and sometimes in order to appreciate what we already have. (We also need change to make our blogs prettier - what do you think of my my edited about me gadget in the top left? Opinions are welcome!)

**AD SALE :: From now through the end of the week, any ad you purchase will run for 60 days, instead of the usual 30 days! Once purchased, I will go in and change the live dates. No promo code to remember - it's just super easy for you and I'll fix it on my end!**

And with that, I need coffee. You with me on any of this? Have any confessions to share? Or maybe I'm the only one who ever feels any of this and I am literally a crazy-woman -- yeah, that might be it.

3:00am Weekends + Giveaway!

Another weekend flies by, Monday morning comes around, and I am again fully convinced that I need just 1 more day! Just one more. Although if weekends were 3 days long I'd probably be fully convinced that I need four. It just seems as though Monday morning always comes back in the blink of an eye, especially now that weekends are the only time I get to see Parker.

I officially accomplished nothing this weekend - had lots of fun, but I wasn't very productive. I drove to Fargo, got to see Parker, Ward, Alyssa, and my mom and dad, and Saturday night we went downtown to watch my dad's buddy's band play. I went to bed at 3:00am Saturday night - 3am! I do not do that. I can not remember the last time I was up until 3 am. I probably don't need to point this out but that was obviously part of the "un-productivity problem" yesterday. Yesterday consisted of watching movies on the couch with Parker, eating one meal, and driving home just in time to unload and crawl into bed. Yes, pathetic. What did you do this weekend?!

And now this morning I'm running behind because I obviously overslept so the most you're going to get today is some photos from my iPhone. But there's a giveaway below, so that's happy! Thanks for stopping by -- I'll be back with something better tomorrow, promise :)

My Favorite Instagram

instagram, blogtober14, blogtober, blogtober with helene and taylor, blogtober with helene in between and the daily tay, social media apps, instagram is my favorite app, favorite instagram photo, instagram photos, choosing a favorite instagram photo, instagram feed

Instagram is by far my favorite form of social media. It's probably the one I post to the most often and the one that I find myself scrolling through while sitting on the couch or waiting at an appointment. Social media with pictures is just better than social media without pictures if you ask me. I wrote a post about my first insta here -- I am proud to say that I do generally receive at least one like on a photo now so things have improved since that first one 150 weeks ago.

I kind of enjoyed scrolling through my instas to try to choose a favorite one - try being the important word here. Helene and Tay, how am I supposed to pick just one favorite instagram? I have so many - so so many favorites. But I went with this one:

instagram, blogtober14, blogtober, blogtober with helene and taylor, blogtober with helene in between and the daily tay, social media apps, instagram is my favorite app, favorite instagram photo, instagram photos, choosing a favorite instagram photo, instagram feed

This is my mom and I (at 22 years old) in the church basement about an hour before I would walk down the aisle. I really don't think it needs much more of a description. The amount of happiness that was felt all around that day is indescribable and my mom's expression is the perfect example. I just love love.

I'm off to go drag my husband out of bed so we can go get some coffee. What do you have planned for this weekend? Do you have a favorite instagram? I'd love to check it out if you leave me a link below!

Our Week: At Least As Told By My iPhone

The first week of being separate from Parker is done and gone. It wasn't horrible - it wasn't awesome, but it wasn't horrible. Like Samantha says, Murphy's law will get ya. The first day of Parker being in Fargo and me being here, I locked myself out of my apartment. Thankfully, the guys I work with were able to break in in about 2 seconds. Needless to say, all I could think about that night was how easy (and quiet) it was to break into my apartment. Will I ever stop being scared when I'm alone at night? Maybe once I'm a mom I 'll grow out of this..... crossing my fingers.

The second day of Parker being gone the bathroom lightbulb burnt out. It's the one that I need a stool to reach. It's also that one whose lightbulbs are in the "lightbulb tub" with Parker in Fargo because we figured it was an easy thing to move early... I mean, really, how often do you have to change a lightbulb?

So here's a look at my week, as told by my iPhone photo gallery. Yes, some of these are screen-shotted snapchats. Don't judge.

Boots // It's officially boot season. Last week I was wishing I was laying in the sun at the lake because it was so warm and this week all I want to do is wear sweaters and boots. This girl loves summer-y weather but I don't hate fall either :) Boots are feelin' so good again.

High five for friday, friday fives, oh hey friday, friday link-ups, friday link-up with september farm, friday link-up with the lauren elizabeth, the lauren elizabeth link-up, five things on friday, it's boot season, recap of the week, week recap, when you're spouse moves away,

Grocery Shopping // Normally Parker does this and I had to go by myself this week. Not only do I hate grocery shopping, but the grocery store is also under construction -- could this get any worse? I snapped a picture of my cart before checking out so I could show Parker how much I miss him :) What is it you southern girls call this thing... a buggy or something? That still just sounds so weird to me.

Packing //  I completely loaded the trunk of my car to take a load back with me to Fargo tonight. I mean really, how boring is packing? I need my mom to come back and pack more for me :) But also, there's that horrible transition period between being packed up and actually moving when I need something but it's in a box somewhere! Tips to deal would be appreciated.

New Job // For Parker that is. I mentioned there are big things happening around here -- he has moved to Fargo and officially started his new job at Scheel's. He loves it so far and I am just so happy for him. Even if I'm a little lonely out here, it's so great to see happiness and determination in your spouse's eyes.

Cooking // I don't like cooking. I mean it's fine, but I don't thoroughly enjoy it. Parker thoroughly enjoys it so dinnertime is normally him cooking or the two of us cooking together. So obviously I expected me living here alone to be an issue in the cooking department; however, I'm so proud that I've cooked and eaten at home every single night! No fast food or skipped meals for this girl.

This weekend I'm headed to see Parker (in Fargo - I don't know if I'm supposed to call that home now or what) and we are going out with my brother and sister-in-law on Saturday night!!! I'm pumped to see them - I've hardly seem them since their wedding

What do you have planned for this weekend?

My Dream Job

I'm joining Helene and Taylor today in their #Blogtober14 party - mostly because I was getting jealous of all the fun posts yesterday for day 1. That and I couldn't come up with anything else to write about today. When in doubt, use somebody else's ideas for your post, right?

I have this tiny, little goal in my head that I'm going to blog every single day this month but I've never actually said it out loud or told anybody about it. So I'm not even going to say it right now because as soon as I say "I'm going to blog every day this month", I won't do it. Some things are weird like that. So I'm just going to keep it a tiny, little goal in my head for now and we'll see how it goes. I mean, how hard can it be?

Blogtober, Blogtober14, blog every day in October, blogtober with helene in between, blogtober with the daily tay

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. Actually, I also wanted to be a figure skater. I dreamt about how my brother and I could be partners and make it to the Olympics - we'd dance across the ice to music; he'd throw me in the air; you know, all that good stuff. I blame it on my mom - she never signed us up for figure skating class. And my brother was more into checking other guys in to boards than gracefully dancing across the ice with his sister. Wow. Anyway.....

I can't remember a day when I didn't want to be a teacher when I grew up. I loved school. I even loved playing school with my friends when we weren't at real school. I first imagined being an elementary teacher - fourth or fifth grade. I changed my mind a bit during my senior year of high school because I loved the AP Calculus class I was taking - yes, yes, I am a math lover. So I went to college and chose Mathematics Education for my degree.

my dream job, what I wanted to be when I grew up, when I grow up, blogtober14, blogtober with helene in between, blogtober with the daily tay, blog everyday in october, blog every day, when I grow up, being a math teacher, my first day of teaching
Me on my first day of teaching. Do I even look old enough to teach high-school?! Holy Hannah, I was nervous.

I graduated with that degree and got a teaching job the following fall teaching math to grades nine through twelve. I liked it - it was A LOT of work but I did like it. But I felt like I was looking for something more - or maybe just something a little different. I was newly married (Parker and I got married 3 weeks after my first teaching job started that fall - talk about stress!) and I felt like all I did was work. I know that that gets better with time for teachers. The more you teach, the more prep work you've done, so each year does get just a little bit easier. But I still didn't feel like it was quite the right fit for me.

I caught myself envying my friends who were going to a business-professional setting everyday. I also envied my nurse friends who got to wear scrubs everyday but that career-change would have required quite a bit more schooling. I started job-searching, just a little bit - I didn't tell many people; I was just looking for fun for now. I spent a lot of time working on my resume and applied for a few Corporate Trainer positions.

Then my dad asked me if Parker and I would ever be interested in moving to open the newest location for their company. We'd both be provided jobs at the lumberyard and a place to live. To make the end of this story short, we accepted and that's what we've been doing for the past 2 years. I've be in charge of the bookkeeping side of things, managing the inventory, and training in new employees - honestly, it's right up my alley. When I move back to Fargo in November (remember Parker is already there), I will be the Project Manager for implementing our new computer system - a job that requires organization, problem-solving, and training which are all the things that I miss about teaching!

Isn't it funny how things work out? 3 years ago I never would've told you this is what I'd be doing right now. Just like I don't know what I'll be doing 3 years from now. I don't even know what I want to be when I grow up! But I look forward to seeing where I end up because sometimes things just work out. Life sure is a fun ride.

Are you doing something different than you ever imagined?

C U R R E N T L Y + Why Blogging Is Awesome

Yesterday was a long day. And I mean loooong. I only worked from 7:30 until 5:00 but it was so busy I didn't get a lunch break, stood all day long, and literally realized at 4:30 that I hadn't gone to the bathroom yet. And yet at 5:00 last night, at the end of the longest day in awhile, I couldn't wait to sit down with my computer.

I couldn't wait to read comments. To read all the posts from yesterday's BMTA link-up. To read e-mails from bloggers who have turned into real-life friends. I couldn't wait to write.

Blogging is awesome for so many reasons. So so so many that I couldn't possibly ever list them out. And one of things that keeps me coming back here everyday is you. Your blog. Your comments. Your e-mails. Your friendship. I am so thankful for all of you. At the end of yesterday, when all I wanted to do was connect with all of you, I promised myself that I would tell you. I would tell you so that you realize how you can positively impact a person's life just by being yourself. So thank you. Because community and being yourself is what blogging's all about, isn't it?

Now moving on to why we're here today...

fall favorites, currently loving, what I'm currently loving, what I'm currently smelling, fall smells, pumpkin scents, why I'm loving this fall, currently loving, fall 2014, currently link-up, blog link-up, currently

Smelling :: Pumpkin everything. Not literally, because all my pumpkin candles (and pumpkin decor) are either packed or with Parker in Fargo. But I'm imagining smelling pumpkin everything -- 'tis the season.

Loving :: Sweaters, and the anticipation of boots and scarves. Good ol' NoDak had a few 80+ degree days last week and, I'm not going to lie, I've loved the cooler weather the past few days. I can't help it. This girl loves the beginning of every season.

Planning ::  My move so I can live in the same space as my husband again- which happens in 6ish weeks. But who's counting?

Baking :: Nothing, because all of our baking supplies are packed up! Which bums me out because this is total baking season. Although, if our stuff wasn't packed right now, I'd be baking peanut butter banana bread -- one of our fall faves.

Celebrating :: Parker's new job. I am so excited for him and I truly believe that marriage is all about supporting your spouse's hopes and dreams. I'm just so happy to see him excited, motivated, and dreaming again :)
