Blogger Men Tell All (Link-Up #1)

Today is the day!! I seriously feel like I have been waiting in anticipation so long for the 1st installment of Blogger Men Tell All! Blogger Men Tell All is a monthly link-up with myself, Becca, and Melissa that has been started as a way to get our guys involved in this awesome blog life. It happens on the last Tuesday of the month and all your man has to do to participate is answer 5 simple questions.

It's fun, easy, and such a great way to let our men make a mark on our blogs. Plus, why wouldn't we want to show those guys off? You can see below that I will most likely use each installment of BMTA as an excuse to post a screenshot of one my my husband's snapchats because, why not? Without further ado, here are Parker's answers to the 1st Round Questions of Blogger Men Tell All... Who's excited?!

husband, husband on the blog, my husband writes on the blog, blogger men tell all, men tell all, get your husband to write on your blog, the life of a blogger's husband, how to get your husband on your blog, the life of my husband, husband of a blogger, blog life, blog life is kinda neat

1 || If you had a blog what would you call it and what would it be about?

Family, Friends, and Food -- I'd talk about the way family and friends have made me who I am today... And well... How many people do you know that can put back two 20-ounce prime ribs on back-to-back days?

(Only you, honey. I am so proud of you and your food-consumption accomplishments.)

2 || If you could live inside any videogame, which would it be?

NHL 2015... duh.

(Yes I probably could have guessed that one. It seems like you already are living inside the game everytime you play.)

3 || Who is your best player on your fantasy football team this season?

No one. My team sucks.

(Well you should probably pick it up a notch and work on your strategy so we can win some money at the end of the season!)

4 || If you could play for any professional sports team, which would it be?

Minnesota Wild.

(I appreciate that you chose a team close to home so you can still be near me. I'm sure that was on your mind when you were answering this question.)

5 || What do you typically do with an hour of free time?

In a perfect world, play some puck with the guys or go to the gym.

(Or..... hang out with me :) )
---------------------------------

I think that I will give Parker the questions a week ahead of time for the 2nd installment so I can maybe get 10-word answers instead of 3-word answers. It appears as though the Family, Friends, and Food blog would be mostly images I think...

I can't wait to read your posts and get to know the men in your lives better! Be sure to stop by on October 21st for Round 2 Questions and link-up with us for the 2nd installment on October 28th. 7 Things We Didn't Expect After Marriage

marriage post, marriage blog, marriage expectations, how expectations change after marriage, marriage advice, engagement tips, tips for after you're married, what I've learned since being married

+ That I could possibly fall in love more. I thought I was in love when we were dating, and then again when we got married. It's amazing how much a heart can grow when you spend every day together.

 + That your wedding is a beautiful, fabulous day and your honeymoon is literally paradise ... but then you come back and live totally normal, everyday lives together. There is so much more to marriage than your wedding and your honeymoon. The every day life lived after is the best part.

 + Sometimes my heart literally overflows with joy when I watch him genuinely laugh.

 + How did I not know the name of his childhood friend or how he loved the lunch lady in elementary school? I thought I knew everything about this man and yet, everyday I learn more.

 + That you literally have a partner in everything from your wedding day on out: money spending and saving, dreaming, moving across the country, making new friends, trying new restaurants, seeing movies, roadtripping, etc. It's so comforting knowing that I have a go-to person and he will always be my person.

+ That some nights would look like lying in bed, watching YouTube videos, and cracking up with laughter. It's so fun.

 + That I would ever need someone so much that I get frazzled when I have to make my own coffee in the morning or have to lay a pillow next to me all night when he's gone so I don't feel alone.

Now go say hi to Lauren, who co-wrote this post with me!

I love that I keep learning new things about Parker. We keep getting closer. We keep laughing more. Sure it's not always flowers and butterflies and a perfect little world, but I'm so thankful I have him in my life. What's something you learned or noticed after marriage that you didn't expect?!

Big Things Are Happening Around Here

The bigger the better, right? More like, the bigger the busier. I feel like this entire last week was a blur!

Speaking of a blur, we celebrated 4 years of marriage last Wednesday. How 4 years have already passed in the blink of an eye I do not even know! I still feel like I'm not even old enough to have been married four years ago...

moving, moving your spouse, long distance, LDR, long-distance relationship, moving to fargo, living apart from your spouse, the weekend of moving, moving weekend, anniversary celebrations

Then this weekend we officially moved Parker to Fargo - eek! He starts his new job on Monday and I am so excited for him. We rented a U-Haul trailer and packed it full, making sure we both had the "necessities" since we'll be living apart until the beginning of November. Have you ever had to live apart from your spouse or significant other? We've done it before and I know we can handle it, but I'm still not exactly thrilled about it.

moving, moving your spouse, long distance, LDR, long-distance relationship, moving to fargo, living apart from your spouse, the weekend of moving, moving weekend, anniversary celebrations

Saturday was actually a really productive day unloading the trailer, unpacking in the apartment, getting beds set-up, going to Target (duh!), and trying not to sweat too much since ND has been reaching record highs the past few days. We were done at about 6:00pm last night and were both so exhausted we probably could have just fallen asleep on the living room rug and skipped dinner. But we forced ourselves to go to one of our favorite restaurants and get a yummy dinner and good drinks at the bar.

We then proceeded to stop at the liquor store and go home for a nightcap and movie night for the first night in our new place. I know, we are a crazy-fun couple. You just want to be our friends, don't you? :)

moving, moving your spouse, long distance, LDR, long-distance relationship, moving to fargo, living apart from your spouse, the weekend of moving, moving weekend, anniversary celebrations

I know the time that we are living apart will fly by because we have so many things going on in the next couple of weeks, even on top of everything that comes along with moving into a new place 4 hours away. But I also feel a little jealous that he gets to spend the next couple of weeks in the new place, while I'm living alone in the disaster zone that is our half-packed apartment.

Can you relate or have you ever felt like that before? Crossing my fingers that October flies by -- maybe it'll be Halloween before I even know it...

Marriage is Messy

This is a guest post written by Lindsay, of The Newlywed Notebook. She's fun, real, and I know this post will just make you want to be her friend. Enjoy!

marriage is messy, honeymoon phase, first year of marriage, marriage advice, tips for newlyweds, advice for your first year of marriage,

Confession: my husband and I never really went through a "honeymoon" phase. The first 6 months of our marriage were not lived out in marital bliss. We didn't hold hands everywhere we went, and we didn't spend every waking, non-work moment together. In fact, there were more than a few times in that first year of our marriage which were quite the opposite. Let me illustrate just a few of them for you:

 I can remember feeling very "frazzled" many nights that first year of marriage. I had just graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, and had decided during my final year of college that teaching was just about the last thing I wanted to do (good job Lindsay, I know). I was spending much of my days that first 6 months of marriage furiously applying for jobs, taking various classes online, and trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do with the next 40+ years of my life. There were many nights during that time when my husband would come home to papers all over the living room, laundry half sorted all over our bedroom, and dinner not yet started. This made me feel terrible because I knew I was home all day - I felt like I should have been providing my husband with a clean house and a hot meal. But it just wasn't happening no matter how hard I tried, and I know my frustrations and stress carried over onto my husband.

marriage is messy, honeymoon phase, first year of marriage, marriage advice, tips for newlyweds, advice for your first year of marriage,

I can also remember going to bed many nights with hurt feelings because of something that was said, but not knowing how to express it, or if it was even worth bringing up. I vividly recall the first night we went to bed angry - the number one piece of marriage advice people tell you to NEVER do. I remember feeling like this was it, and that everything was going to be downhill from that point. I remember not knowing how to fix the situation, or who should be the first one to bring it up. I remember burnt dinners (twice in a night, on one occasion), bum fridges, and broken plumbing. Sometimes I look back on that first year of our marriage and wish that we would have experienced that "honeymoon" phase that you so often see on TV or read about in books. But you know what? Looking back, that first year of our marriage was real. Sure, some of it was messy. But a lot of it was really great and full of memories I will never forget like decorating our first apartment, buying our first big piece for furniture together, and searching for our first home.

marriage is messy, honeymoon phase, first year of marriage, marriage advice, tips for newlyweds, advice for your first year of marriage,

So if I were to give you any advice today, it would be to let your marriage be real. Let it be an accurate reflection of you. Don't live your relationship based on how others think it should go or what they want to see from you. Sure, you won't always have all the answers and handle everything correctly, but that's OK. On those days, just know that I'm out there too trying my best to muddle through it all - and I'm pretty sure there are a few other wives out there who feel the exact same way as us. As long as you are trying to be caring and understanding towards your spouse, and working to meet their needs to the best of your ability, that's all you can do.

 And hey, sometimes "messy" isn't so bad! Think a flirty food fight, getting caught in a summer rain, or doing some physical labor on your first home together. I think that if we just try our best to let the "good" messes outweigh the bad, we will all turn out just fine. Marriage (and life) can be messy and stressful and crazy, but it can also be beautiful and exciting and life changing - and isn't that what makes this whole ride worth taking?

Lindsay is the sole blogger and owner of The Newlywed Notebook. She enjoys sharing with her readers the everyday struggles and triumphs of newlywed life and the lessons learned along the way. F O U R Y E A R S

4 years ago today I married my best friend.

He brought me roses in the morning and champagne at night.

He saw me in my wedding gown while my dream day came true.

I kissed my husband for the first time and shared stolen moments in the church's stairwell while everyone left.

We walked under the bell tower at our alma mater - something you only do with your spouse.

4 years together, wedding anniversary, september wedding, september wedding photos, wedding photography, september wedding photography, celebrating four years together, 4 year wedding anniversary, wedding anniversary, loving your spouse

Sure, we go through our ups and downs; we fight; we disagree.

The wedding day memories can fade. The dress gets preserved in a box. The flowers dry up.

But look at the excitement and happiness on our faces as we walk under the bell tower with our life partner.

That is still there. Every single day. Fist-pump and all.

Introducing: BLOGGER MEN TELL ALL Link-Up

I am so excited to finally tell you about something that has been in the works for a few months! In August, Becca asked me if I'd be interested in starting up a new link-up with her. She asked me if I remembered The Boys Behind The Blog link-up that Mal and Stephanie hosted for awhile. I said yes, duh, obviously, because it really was one of my favorites. I loved an excuse to get Parker involved with this thing.

Well we miss having our guys on the blog once a month so Becca, Melissa, and I have been working on Blogger Men Tell All: a monthly link-up happening on the last Tuesday of every month. The week before the link-up we will share 5 questions that you should have the man in your life answer. This could be your husband, dad, brother, goldfish, friend, boyfriend, dog, etc...

You can create your post however you want. Give your man your computer with blogger pulled up and have him type his own answers. You could ask him the questions and type his answers for him. Maybe, just maybe, get a little crazy and record him while you ask him the questions and post the vlog for your post... Parker and I did this one time and it was absolutely priceless - watch his vlog here.

blogger men tell all link-up, men tell all, blog link-ups, tuesday link-ups, get your man on your blog, blogger men tell all

The first link-up will be next Tuesday, September 30th and you can link-up here, at Becca's blog, or at Melissa's blog. This first round of Blogger Men Tell All is all about letting us get to know your man! Have him participate by answering these 5 questions:
  • If you had a blog what would you call it and what would it be about?
  • If you could live inside any videogame, which would it be?
  • Who is your best player on your fantasy football team this season?
  • If you could play for any professional sports team, which would it be?
  • What do you typically do with an hour of free time?
Contact me if you have any questions for us -  I'm excited to see you next Tuesday for the first round of Blogger Men Tell All!

Probably One Of The Best Weekends There Ever Was (#bloglifeiskindaneat)

As bloggers, we completely open up online about our lives, friendships, favorite things, tough times we might be going through, and so so much more. Our readers support us each time they leave a nice comment or a tweet that makes us laugh hysterically. We read other blogs and completely connect with that person who's sitting on the other side of the computer completely pouring their heart out. It's kind of a weird thing if you think about it. And yet, we keep coming back to it - whether it's every single day or every single week, we continue to make our mark on the world wide web.

You know what's even weirder than this? Meeting that person whose ramblings you've been following. You've never met them in person or even heard their voice, and yet you know more about them than most of your coworkers or maybe even some of your friends. The first real conversation you have with them is not a normal introductory convo because you already know their husband's name and how many pets they have. You already know they just started a new job or love different nail polishes. So your conversation jumps right into the deeper stuff: you hear details about the new job. They ask about your new apartment because they already know you have found one. You talk about the struggles of some friendships, tough family issues, and (every so often) you talk blogging.

Let me just say that every single one of these women is beautiful: inside and out. They are kind, funny, and passionate about life. And I am so grateful to have been provided this weekend to meet them in person - even though I swear we were already besties.

Visit Grand Forks provided me with a free weekend trip. But all opinions in this post are my own.

The Grand Forks, ND Convention and Visitors Bureau organized a weekend for North Dakota bloggers, completely free of charge. We showed up, checked into a hotel, and got to know other ND bloggers throughout the weekend. There were quite a few different activities planned for us - like canoeing on the river and attending the art & wine walk downtown on Saturday. Considering drinking wine is one of my favorite activities, I had a lot of fun :)

We tried out a few different restaurants (there are links below each photo) and they were all absolutely fabulous. We talked blog, we talked life, and we talked about how we can collaborate or help each other out in the future. The spin class refueled my desire to feel exercise endorphins again - let's be honest, it's been awhile. And the only thing I spent money on all weekend was my almost-4-dollar coffee I grabbed before heading home.

That's the most fun weekend I've ever had for only spending $3.93. And I truly know that I have made some good friends as a result. This whole blogging thing is kind of weird, but I kind of like it. In the words of my husband, #bloglifeiskindaneat.

Please Do A Rain Dance For Us

This week dragged on. It did, I'm not going to lie. I even texted Laura on Wednesday completely asking about "tomorrow" as if "tomorrow" was already Friday. Thankfully she's still my friend even though I'm officially crazy. But it was kind of an eventful week and I'm kind of excited to spill the beans about all of it :)

(1) My mom came to visit!

moving, packing, bloggers weekend, grand forks getaway, blogging weekend, blates

(2) And not just to visit, take us out to dinner, and make us breakfast in the morning the way moms do. She also spent an entire afternoon and the next morning packing up our stuff while we were working. She is officially a packing machine and it has made me feel so much better about how this whole process is going to go. Parker left for Fargo after work yesterday and already completely filled up his truck with things to move to our new apartment. I'm hoping that if we take a load each time we go there it won't be a ton of stuff to move at the end.

(3) Parker left for Fargo last night because he has a third interview with the same place today! Say a little prayer, make a wish on an eyelash, or do a rain dance - whatever you want to send him some good vibes!

(4) When I leave work this afternoon I will be heading to my first-ever blogger's weekend. Sure I've gone on a blate before with my friend, Laura. But never a whole weekend and never a whole group of bloggers. I'm kind of excited and I may have spent an hour last night trying on a bunch of clothes to decide what to wear. I'm also kind of nervous about meeting all of them. And I'm equally nervous about the spin class that we are scheduled for Saturday morning.

(5) It's Friday. That's my #5 because I'm fresh out of thoughts and short on time. Peace out. Hope you have a fantastic weekend. Don't forget to do your rain dance!

linking up with Karli and Lauren!

30 Reasons Why I Love Fall

Have you realized yet that the first day of fall is in less than a week?! It's hard to believe. I feel like I was just embracing the 50-degree weather, breaking out the shorts, and getting pumped up for summer. It does seem like summer is always the season that flies by the fastest though - that's life I guess.

The changing seasons is one of my favorite parts about living where we do. Sure the month of January (read: basically the whole winter) can totally suck and be super cold. But I love when warm summer days turn into crisp, fall air. I even love the first snowfall of the year and the feeling of a cozy, winter evening inside. I know that if I ever moved to a different part of the country I would miss feeling the change of every season.

And I am ready to bring on fall!

fall season, fall in ND, why you should love fall, the best parts about fall, changing seasons, season changing into fall, fall accessories, fall fashion, fall football, falling into fall

1 || pumpkins. in fact, just pumpkin everything.

2 || candles

3 || pumpkin spice lattes

4 || warm, sunshine-y days

5 || hay rides or haunted houses for those of you who actually find entertainment in getting the pants scared off of you.

6 || scarves

7 || boots

8 || hats

9 || cute jackets. and yes, the last 4 things on my list were accessory-related.

10 || redecorating - time to break out the fall decor and harvest pumpkin candles.

11 || apple crisp

12 || peanut butter banana bread

13 || thanksgiving

14 || leaves changing colors

15 || crisp air

16 || halloween movies on abc family

17 || tv shows starting up again

18 || uggs

19 || football

20 || candy corn

21 || seasonal beers

22 || fire

23 || sleeping with the windows open

24 || snuggling during movie nights

25 || hunting. parker made me add that one to the list. he also told me to add that it's almost hockey season.

26 || apple cider. i'd like to try making a homemade apple cider this season - i know kerry has one.

27 || kids in costumes

28 || candy

29 || roasted pumpkin seeds

30 || and for those of you who don't like fall, at least it's almost christmas :)

I B E L I E V E . . .

I believe in love.

I believe that good things happen to good people.

I believe a haircut and pedicure can make a woman feel 10 times better. And while you're at it, wax those eyebrows. It'll make the world of a difference in how you feel.

I believe in forgiveness. If it weren't for forgiveness, I wouldn't have many of the friends and loved ones in my life today. We're all human.

I believe in blogging. Writing. Expressing yourself. Whatever you want to call this crazy part of the www.

I believe in treating yourself - buy the shoes, get a massage, go on a date. No one ever looks back on those moments and thinks I wish I would have never done that.

I believe in saying I love you. Every chance you get.

I believe in having "just one more" glass of wine. I also believe in wine at lunch on a day off.

I believe in speaking your mind and wearing your heart on your sleeve.

I believe in Papa Murphy's. And other cheap and easy dinner ideas to fall back on when you forget to start the crock-pot.

I believe in making wishes on eyelashes or a clock that reads 11:11.

I believe in complimenting or befriending strangers. Who knows, that one simple compliment may possibly completely turn their day around.

I believe in Target. Because, duh.
I believe in buying cards. For every single occasion and every single non-occasion. I do not believe that cards are a waste of money.

I believe in Santa Clause. And the Easter Bunny. Because if we don't, future children will never grow to love the spirit of those holidays. I do not believe in ghosts because I like to sleep at night.

I believe in sleeping in on weekend mornings, but only until like 8:30. Because I also believe in morning coffee and quiet time.

I also believe in morning margaritas if the occasion calls for it. PJs and all.

I believe in God and that there is a plan for every single one of us. I know we need to trust in that and I don't think there will never be a perfect time for anything.

I believe in loving and enjoying life, even on a Monday.

5 Things Because It's Friday

+ My perfect night is candles burning, a glass of wine, a little blogging, and relaxing with a tv show or my book. And by "a glass of wine" I mean 2 glasses of wine. And by "a little blogging" I mean I spend way too much time blogging.

+ Speaking of my book: Divergent Series. Obsessed. I can't stop reading and I probably won't get anything done this weekend. That is all.

+ I'm working on something with Becca and I'm uber-excited. But I can't tell you about it yet. You'll have to come back on Tuesday, September 23rd :)

+ It's a big deal when I wear eyeshadow. It's basically almost as big of a deal as when I straighten my hair. And considering that I left my straightener in Fargo, that hasn't happened too often lately. But I wore eyeshadow on Wednesday AND Thursday.

+ I've been catching a lot of slack for giving our life update with no photo of our soon-to-be apartment. I admit it: I'm a horrible blogger and made a somewhat-huge life decision without taking a picture of it. BUT, I did some searching on the internet and found a photo of our future apartment. It's a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartment that has a very open kitchen/living layout which I love. love love love.

Knowing what our apartment will be like makes me a little excited about packing. On a scale of 1-10, I'm at about a 3. Thankfully, my mom is coming to help with the whole packing-thing next week. But I'm also hoping to get a little packing/organization done this weekend since I'll be home while Parker is gone hunting. Then again, I'm also obsessed with that book so....

What are YOUR weekend plans??

What I'll Be Watching On TV This Fall

I'm not going to lie: In my eyes one of the best parts about fall is my favorite tv shows starting up again. I used to only have a few tv shows that I watched religiously. And by religiously, I mean they were recorded so I could watch on my own time and Parker knew not to even try to talk to me while I was watching. For example, he doesn't even dare speak if Gilmore Girls is on. What a good guy.

Then, this little amazing thing called Netflix came into my life and all of a sudden my Fall Must-Watch List is long. Like seriously, long. Not that there's anything wrong with long ;) But this list is going to be quite the commitment on my part. Thanks to Netflix, there are 3 new shows on this list that I wasn't watching obsessed with last season. But I know I can do it; all I need to do is set my mind to it. And set my TiVo to record all these faves:

1 || Dancing With The Stars
fall 2014 tv shows, tv series, dancing with the stars gif, dwts, the bachelor gif, parenthood gif, law and order SVU gif, grey's anatomy gif, blue bloods gif, last man standing gif, scandal gif, revenge gif, gifs, fall tv gifs, mariska hargitay, meredith and derek, what to watch this fall, fall tv season premieres, premiere for fall tv shows, big bang theory gif, sheldon cooper

Mondays @ 8/7c (Premieres September 15th)
This one is a give-in. I grew up dancing so how could I not watch a show all about movement, music, and expressing yourself through dance? Plus, I secretly wish I looked like those girls and got to wear those costumes. Don't we all?

2 || The Bachelor(ette)

Mondays @ 8/7c (Premieres January 2015)
I'm sure the next season (this winter) will be the most dramatic season yet! I can't help it. I guess it's a guilty pleasure or something.

Olivia is badass and I personally think the storyline keeps getting better and better. I miss Elliot, but I'm still obsessed. Also, this premiere is on mine & Parker's 4-year anniversary. Watching Olivia kick some butt sounds like a romantic end to the evening, yes?

Can't stop won't stop. I've watched this from the beginning and am still going at it. I think the story took a dip a few years ago but have really enjoyed the last 2 seasons. Plus, McDreamy is reason enough to tune in each week.

Thursdays @ 10:30/9:30c (Premieres September 25th)
This one got 2 gifs so it's obviously my favorite. Fav.or.ite. I love every single character. I love every single episode. I laugh. I cry. I smile. I relate. There is absolutely nothing not to love. Except for the fact that this next season is possibly it's last? So many people love this show I don't think it should every stop. If the Bachelor can make it 19 seasons, so can Parenthood. Jeesh!

7 || Scandal

Thursdays @ 9/8c (Premieres September 25th)
Thank you Netflix, for this one. Olivia Pope rocks and all I want her to do is marry the President and live in the Vermont cabin. I'm a sucker for a good love story.

Thursdays @ 8/7c (Premieres September 11th -- tonight!)
I don't know what it is about watching XL people kick butt at losing weight but I just can't help myself. And I normally enjoy this one while eating ice cream and telling myself I'm going to the gym in the morning. If you're new to this show, make sure to have Kleenex available for the Season Finale. That's just one big sob-fest at our place.

9 || Last Man Standing

Fridays @ 8/7c (Premieres October 3rd)
I watched Home Improvement growing up and now I watch Last Man Standing. How could you not? It's an easy, 30-minute show about a man and his 3 daughters (which is a funny coincidence because he had 3 sons in Home Improvement). Plus, Parker will actually watch this one with me.

10 || Blue Bloods

Fridays @ 10/9c (Premieres September 26th)
You can't have a Fall TV Line-Up without a crime show in there. This one gives you the mystery and drama of a crime show series, but also the feel-good scenes of a family show. I just love the Reagan family.

11 || Revenge
fall 2014 tv shows, tv series, dancing with the stars gif, dwts, the bachelor gif, parenthood gif, law and order SVU gif, grey's anatomy gif, blue bloods gif, last man standing gif, scandal gif, revenge gif, gifs, fall tv gifs, mariska hargitay, meredith and derek, what to watch this fall, fall tv season premieres, premiere for fall tv shows, big bang theory gif, sheldon cooper, the biggest loser gif, jillian michaels gif

Sundays @ 10/9c (Premieres September 28th)
Again, thank you Netflix. Season 4 premieres in 4 a few weeks and I haven't even finished Season 3 on Netflix yet. This one will reel you in from the very first episode. I love a good series that is mysterious, sexy, and easy-to-watch all at the same time. Emily Thorne, you are also badass.

For the record, it really bothers me that there are 11 shows on this list and not a nice, even, number of 10. Also, thank goodness for Tivo - that's all I've got to say. Looks like my Thursdays will be fairly busy. Don't expect great Friday blog posts :)

What will you be watching this fall?!

This summer I finally jumped on the maxi-dress-bandwagon even though they've been pretty popular for awhile now - clearly you can tell I'm totally up on all the latest fashion trends. not. But why did I not join in on this one sooner? I love the maxis that I finally bought and have worn them multiple times - there was only one time that I actually wore this one two days in a row. #sorrynotsorry

I actually wore this last weekend when Parker and I were apartment-shopping. I was going for a young, cute, but also professional-looking ensemble because I knew we might have to  ask beg for our lease to be less than 12 months. This is what happens when you forget to tell your husband about the young, cute, but also professional-looking vibe you would like the 2 of you to be giving off:

He told me he was giving off an ass-kicking vibe. He also told me that this whole taking-pictures-of-yourself thing is very narcissistic. I told him it's for the blog. #duh

I'm not sure if it was his vibe that worked or mine, but we did find an apartment! A 12-month lease seems to be required by most apartments in the area so that's the biggest thing I was worried about. We were hoping that when we move back in November we can be in an apartment for 6 months (ish) while we can be house-hunting so we really didn't want to get stuck in a 12-month lease. The landlord that we used to rent from before moving was willing to let us sign a 6-month lease. What a nice guy, huh? Once the 6 months are up it will be month-to-month so it will be very flexible - I don't think I could have asked for much better.

Plus, it's a two-bedroom apartment. Which means it also has 2 bathrooms and 2 closets! I think the 2 closets might possibly excite me even more than the 2 bedrooms - coming from a girl whose been sharing a small little closet with her husband for 2 years. Closet space is like primo real estate in my eyes. Anywho, I'm getting side-tracked. We found an apartment, I couldn't be more excited, and it's so nice to finally be able to picture a space when I day-dream about moving home!

Now let the packing begin. #ugh

See Ya Later, Sweet Summertime

Normally Labor Day Weekend feels like the last "official" weekend of summer, but with it being so early this year I didn't really feel that until this past weekend. Sure, we can still get some pretty nice weather in the month of September but it's different.

The air cools off and the sun is much lower in the sky. It can still be warm if you're in the sun but sweatshirts and blankets around your legs start to happen a lot more often. All of a sudden a pumpkin beer starts to taste better than a margarita and that's when you know you're ready for fall.

So this weekend was all about saying so long to summer for 2014. And I'm just so sentimental I had to take a picture of the last time for practically everything. You're lucky you didn't get a picture of the last time I brushed my hair after jumping in the lake - it wouldn't surprise me.

It was time for the boats to come out of the water for the season.

saying goodbye to summer, summer 2014, it's the end of the summer, taking the boats out, minnesota lakes, zorbaz patio, zorbaz margarita, jumping in the lake, showering in the lake, wine at lunch, granite city lunch

I was pretty proud of myself for jumping in the lake both days to shower in the lake for the last time this year. The cooling air can cool the lake off pretty fast but it's not so bad once you go under the first time. I think my dad said the water temp was 69 degrees.

We also had our final trip to Zorbaz for lunch and a marg on the upper deck and we had our last moonlight pontoon cruise.

There's something about this place that just does it for me - it's relaxing, fun, peaceful ... everything. I feel different at the lake than I do anywhere else so it's always sad to see another season end. But I always remind myself that at the end of another sweet summertime season I am so lucky that I get to say, see ya next year.

Parker and I also had Friday off so we could look at some apartments for when we move (and have wine at lunch). We found an apartment! And I'm really excited - update coming tomorrow :) Also for the record, a table of 3 guys were laughing at the fact that I asked Parker to take this picture of me so not posting it on the blog was not an option #bloggerprobs

What did you do this weekend? And do you ever get caught taking somewhat-embarrassing pictures for the blog?!

Things I Should Be Doing More Often

Drinking wine is not necessarily something I should be doing more often and yet this photo just seemed fitting.

1 || Exercise. For obvious reasons. But Revenge and my latest book, Divergent, mixed with my exhaustion from camping just aren't helping this situation.

2 || Wax my eyebrows and cut my hair. Why is it that when something needs to give it's our personal hygiene that goes first? I'm not gonna lie, sometimes I just don't shower if there's not time. And I think I could really use a big-time overhaul on my hairstyle -- suggestions?

3 || Clean. And now that our big move back to Fargo is 2 months away (insert salsa dancer emoji here) I should probably add packing in there,too.

4 || Write blog posts. Because Lord knows it's been a little sporadic and up-in-the-air around here for the past few weeks. It's time to get back into my schedule and routine. Plus, I kind of am missing my daily coffee+blogging early mornings anyway.

5 || Plan for my future. Because I feel like right now I know what's going to be happening, going on, and making me money only for the next 12 months. And it kills me that I don't have a "long-term plan" on the books.

6 || Shopping, and yes I am being serious right now. Yes, a lot of women feel like they shop too much - I am the exact opposite. I rarely shop for my own clothes, shoes, or accessories - even though those are some of my favorite things in life. I think that this Fall I need to give myself permission to treat myself. Why is it so freaking hard sometimes to spend money on ourselves?

Can you relate or would you add anything to my list? Tomorrow's FRIDAY!

C U R R E N T L Y

Writing blog posts again and I love it. Summer is such a busy time and it's a time that I don't want to look back at and feel like I missed out because I was sitting behind my computer screen. So the posts have been a little more sporadic for the past couple of months. I don't know if it's the fact that I know it's September now but all of a sudden I just feel like I'm ready to get back into some regular routines : working out everyday, cleaning more often than every 10 weeks, and getting back to a normal blogging schedule. I really do love sitting here and writing each day.

Anticipating moving home in 2 months! I wrote a little post way back in July sharing our news about moving back to our hometown, Fargo, and our pure excitement about it. Even then it looked like the months might drag on and I'd be waiting and waiting and waiting but to be honest, they have flown by and I can't believe it's basically 2 months away already. Unfortunately, I guess that means I should maybe at least think about packing.

Wearing slippers and my robe and drinking coffee. Because it's early morning and I was too tired to write this last night. Also, Season 3 of Revenge has been added to Netflix so that was also a contributing factor to my not writing last night. #cantstopwontstop

Craving scarves, fall boots, and sweaters. I love summer but for the record, I absolutely love September and October, too. The air starts to feel crisp but the sun is still warm and fall fashion is probably my favorite. This accessory-loving heart feels so happy every time it sees scarves, boots, big bags, and hats.

Missing friends back home.

linking up with Jenna and Anne!

The 1st Annual Labor Day Weekend Camping Trip

Boundary Waters, Minnesota, camping weekend, Ely Minnesota, Fall Lake Campground, what I didn't expect about camping, first camping weekend, Labor Day Weekend, portaging in the Boundary Waters, canoeing, tent camping, food to eat when tent camping, camping weekend, first annual labor day weekend camping trip

1,066 miles later we have fully enjoyed and returned from the first annual Labor Day Weekend Camping Trip. We really did have an absolute blast and I really did take the best (and most thorough) shower ever when we got back last night.

It's still up for discussion which one felt better: that 20-minute sudsy shower or the Malbec that I drank out of a real wine glass. I even chose to go with the wine glass with a stem which is a big deal because that means I have to hand-wash it.

We left Friday night to stay at my brother's place and the 6 of us got up early Saturday morning and drove 5 hours to a campground just a few miles from Ely, MN. That's Boundary Waters country up there and it really was absolutely beautiful. I love Minnesota lakes country to begin with but there's something about the open, calm waters, luscious trees, and log cabins that just feels so peaceful.

I really did expect camping to be a lot of work - both prep-work and work there but I still could not believe how much food, drinks, and supplies 6 people could possibly have to bring. Add the 2 tents to those that list and we easily filled up the back of 2 pick-up trucks. Then again, I'd say we ate and drank pretty good for the weekend and definitely didn't starve so totally worth it. And the guys decided to cover our campsite as much as possibly when we heard there was rain in the forecast for our final night there. Not only was it an entertaining process, it actually did keep our campsite pretty dry overnight.

I expected to feel a little deprived - you know, of the things I'm used to like hot morning coffee, a cold drink at the end of the day, a well-rounded meal,,, I mean really, is that so much to ask for? :) I was actually surprised and did not feel deprived once. We had omelets-in-a-bag for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, tinfoil dinners (potatoes + hamburger + peppers + zucchini), burgers, and brats. I'd say those are pretty good eats for not having a stocked kitchen.

I take it back - I did feel deprived every time I woke up in the middle of the night and really needed to go to the bathroom but held it until morning because it didn't seem to be worth the trek in the dark. But on the bright side, the bathrooms were nicer than a lot of other bathrooms I've used before and I only had to use the somewhat-icky outhouse once. Again, much better than I expected.

I expected canoeing to be a relaxing, peaceful, and calming way to spend a few hours - boy, was I wrong. Once Parker and I stopped fighting and figured out how to point ourselves forward it continued to be the most strenuous arm workout I've had in weeks. Months even. Also, did you know that sometimes people do this thing called "portaging" for fun? You basically pull your canoe up somewhere, empty out its contents, and proceed to carry it's contents AND your now-empty-but-still-aluminum canoe to another spot to put it in the water and start all over again. Personally, I would have been fine hanging out on this island all afternoon but we decided to give the whole portaging thing a try.

It's basically one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - partly because I was trying to carry all of this while laughing hysterically and crossing my legs so I didn't pee my pants. Long story short, we did portage and I will now cross it off my bucket list even though it wasn't on there in the first place and will probably never do it again - unless I had one of the things with wheels like the professional campers. But I guess it's fun to say we did it. And the GoPro videos should be hilariously awesome.

On Monday we left at 10:00 am and got home at 8:45 pm so all in all, it was probably my least favorite day. Granted, we did stop twice: once, because we practically drive right past the US Hockey Hall of Fame on our way so obviously we had to stop there. He is such a hockey freak and even made me take a picture with the statue out front.

we also practically drive right past the Zorbaz in Grand Rapids on the way home so we spontaneously decided that's where we should have lunch. It was fun to see another one of the Zorbaz locations which is very different from the one we're used to on Pelican Lake. And why would we want to pass on a photo-op when we look so great after no hot shower for 2 days...

Now I just feel like a need another weekend to recover from my weekend. All in all, totally worth it.
How did you spend your Labor Day Weekend? Can you even believe that it's already September?!
