Life Unplanned: A long-story-short

Happy Monday!

Weekend Update on Tuesday!

Oh-em-gee. It's already Wednesday! Believe me when I say this, I was completely not planning on not posting the last two days. In fact, it feels like basically my entire week so far hasn't gone according to the way I planned it.

I think I'm just 2 days behind in life right now!
Sometimes ND winters can be a little pretty.
For those of you who've never seen snow or been in extremely cold weather before, that up there is what we call Sun Dogs.

So last weekend we were in Fargo for a tournament for the youth hockey team that my hubby coaches. {Fargo is our hometown and is about 4 hours from where we live now.} I tagged along and came with him for the tournament. When we weren't at the one hockey game his team had each day, we had a great time catching up with friends and family. I got to visit with my Grandma over pizza for dinner on Friday night and spend the day on Saturday with my mom. {We went shopping, again. All the men in our lives did not understand this when we just spent last weekend shopping in Minneapolis. Oh, but they just don't understand, do they?} Anyway, then I had coffee with a friend Sunday morning before we left town, drove the 4 hours, and got home around 8:00 on Sunday night.

And the boys wonder why we go shopping multiple times... :)

Just like a normal Sunday night after we've been gone for the weekend, our apartment was fairly unorganized, we didn't unpack, and we had like no food. But we always just plan on making it through work on Monday and then spend Monday night grocery shopping, cooking, unpacking, and basically putting ourselves back together again :) Anybody else ever feel like this when you've been gone for the weekend and get home late? I just feel like a chaotic wreck!

Well, we found out at work at about 2:00 on Monday afternoon that we were going to go right back to Fargo. That night. Let me just make a long story short and say that the company we work for also has a location in Fargo and, due to some employee emergencies, they could really use Parker's help working at the Fargo location this week. So that's what we did - drove back to Fargo less than 24 hours after we even got home! Why? Because we love spending ridiculous amounts of time together in a moving vehicle.... not.

I had to come with Parker because the plan was to drive through Fargo on Thursday in order to get to his grandparents' for Thanksgiving. So basically we drove here Monday night, stayed at my parents' while we're here, both worked in Fargo yesterday and today, and will head to his grandparents' place tomorrow for Turkey Day. Our apartment at home is probably still chaotic, we still haven't completely unpacked from last weekend, and I can't remember the last time we went grocery shopping. Seriously. But, you gotta do what you gotta do. And sometimes things don't go according to plan. I even struggled typing that last sentence because I like to plan literally everything and do not really enjoy being spontaneous.

If you made it this far in my life update, I'm sorry but I don't actually have an interesting, educational, or even valuable post for today. This was it. But I did reward you with a mix of pictures from my weekend throughout this long-story-short.

Totally worth it, right? :)
Speaking of things that are unplanned: I took this picture on Saturday by accident when I was trying to take the selfie of me and Parker. My iPhone camera was facing the wrong direction so I accidentally took a picture of the street we were facing. And now I think it's kinda pretty and is one of my favorite pictures from the weekend. I guess plans can be a little overrated.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! The plan is to write a post for tomorrow but the way things are going, who knows! :)

Thanks for reading, friends!

H54F #17 | Happy Friday!

This week, I am thankful for my husband. I mean, I love him every week but this week especially, I was feeling so taken care of. After my accident, the "emergency tub" that I keep in my trunk was cracked and missing a few of the essentials. It's a tub that my dad got for me years ago for things like gloves, a screwdriver, a tire pressure gauge, and other things that I may or may not know how to use. Before I even got home from my weekend, Parker had already bought me a new tub, replaced the missing things, and included Dove chocolates. Also, he painted our dresser red, which has been on my to-do list since... like... August. I mean, only half of it is red so it looks a little weird for now but he ran out of time to finish it on the weekend and it's the thought that counts. Also, he wrote my blog post for me yesterday. Needless to say, I am so thankful! And so very happy it's Friday.

1. We got our first "real" snowfall on Wednesday. I'm not going to lie, the snow flurries can be a little pretty; and I couldn't imagine Christmastime without all the white. But the below-zero temps can get lost.

2. Went through the commercial lane in the drive-thru at the bank on Thursday. The teller told me I either needed to use another lane or come inside because the drawer was frozen shut. Again, the snow flurries can be a little pretty, but the freezing temps suck. #nodakprobs

3. I spent my Thursday evening water-proofing shoes with Protect-All spray. It's not that fun but having 3 new pairs of shoes sure is.

4. Did some Christmas card research this week. Do you send Christmas cards to family + friends and, if so, where do you order them from? I found a few websites whose cards I love, but I'm too cheap to spend over $1.00 per card.

5. We're heading "home" (to our hometown) this weekend. After last week's bummer-excitement and the craziness that ensued this week I'm looking forward to shopping with my mom (again!) on Saturday, relaxing, doing a little car shopping, and watching my hubby's youth hockey team's games.

Happy Friday :)

The Boys Behind the Blog Link-Up

Well, hello everyone! Now, before we get all jazzed up and ready to read Sam's post, I am going to warn you, she didn't write it...

This is her husband, Parker, and I guess it is my turn to write? WELL... here...we...GO!
1. Who is your favorite band/musician?
There are so many good bands/ musicians now its really hard to have a "favorite" band/musician these days. I, personally, go in phases. One week I will be into Classic and Alternative rock. The next week I will be into Rap and Techno. For example, right now, I am really into John Butler Trio, Avicii and Imagine Dragons. However, I would have to say my favorite band of all time would have to be between Staind or Puddle of Mudd.

2. What was your first CD/tape?
I actually have no idea what my first CD/tape was. I am going to guess it was probably a "classic" rock tape/CD since my go-to music genre is classic rock.

3. Who was your first concert?
Boy band era. I remember getting out of school early with some friends to go watch Nsync play at the Target Center. Looking back.... wow... That is all I can say.

4. What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?
I am pretty darn sure this is a trick question. I really don't have a "favorite" Thanksgiving food. Why? I love all types of food, except Ranch dressing and mayonaise. If anything has those two ingredients, you better be darn sure you can mask them very well or that dish can go get lost.

5. Finish the sentence: I am thankful for...
I have learned that we as humans take a lot of things for granted. I'm definitely guilty of that sometimes. Things, people and life change so suddenly you never know when it will be the last time you will do that "one" thing you have always known to do or the last time you will get that same thing you always get. I am very thankful for the many people, situations and opportunities God has introduced me to help better myself and those around me.

How-To: Stay Relaxed during the Holiday Season

Hey hey friends. Is it already Wednesday?! Man alive, I have a feeling this week is going to be over before I even unpack my bag from the weekend or decide which bottle of wine I should start with enjoy this week. Kidding. Sort of. BUT, according to Jessa, there is nothing wine hasn't solved before. And that, is why she's my friend.

So while I'm still getting my poop in a group (I'm sorry. I know. That's such a gross phrase but my husband says it so it gets stuck in my head I guess.) after my unfortunate events lately, Jessa's going to pop in on my blog today and share some of her tips + tricks for staying cool and collected during the chaotic Holiday season...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi y'all!! I'm Jessa from Life of a Sports Wife. My blog is a lifestyle blog where I occasionally write about sports, but mostly my family, DIY crafts, fitness; really whatever motivates me and inspires me to write.

Lately I've noticed that all of us bloggers have been feeling kinda blah. I don't know what it is -- is it the weather changing and getting cold or is it the stress of the holidays? Either way, with the holidays right around the corner it is so easy to get wrapped up in the holidays and just get burned out. I know that I am there right now. How do I balance everything AND still get holiday shopping done?!? There is always so much to do and people to see. Sometimes it is best to just way away and regroup.

These are the things that I do:

Go for a walk:
First of all, it's good for you; but there is something about fresh air that makes you feel better. My husband and I try to go for a walk every night. Usually it's just around our apartment complex but a walk is a walk.

Read a book:
I love reading!! I have AT LEAST 3 books on my nook that I still need to finish, but I read a lot of books. It calms me down after a long day. Also it gives me time to not really think about anything! Some of my favorite books: The Diary of Anne Frank, The Devil Wears Prada, and anything by Emily Giffin.
Watch tv:
I probably watch way too much tv, but sometimes it is good to chill on the couch and relax. Bravo is my go-to station, besides ESPN. My guilty pleasure is Real Housewives of Anything but I really love Atlanta. Yes, I realize that it is probably scripted but it's still good!! Plus, their "drama" is nowhere near my drama.
Craft time:
This could be a variety of things, but I prefer to knit and crochet. It is very relaxing for me and I love making things for other people to enjoy.
Retail therapy:
Sometimes you just need to go shopping!! Or even just window shopping.
Wine:
There is nothing wine hasn't solved before.
I hope you enjoy these tips on how to survive the holiday season!!
