Weekend Plans: Hunting in North Dakota

This weekend we're going to my brother's fiancee's mom's sister's farm. Got that? ;) Sorry, I totally could have explained that in a much easier fashion but that was fun. Anyway, we're driving three hours after work tonight to get to their farm to hunt this weekend. I know what you might be thinking - if you read my about me page or have followed along with LSL at all (think: lover of jewelry + accessories), you maybe are thinking I'm not really the type of person who hunts.

Well, believe it or not people, you're right. I don't like to get my hands dirty. I don't like bugs. Sitting in unknown places in "nature" makes me nervous about all those creatures in there. I don't even have one freaking piece of camo. {Unfortunately that camo mini skirt I rocked back in 10th grade is long gone. Or maybe that's a good thing.} I'm not a wuss-pie, I just like cleaner things - think: laying in the sun, reading a book, or getting a pedicure. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think a girl can like and enjoy both of these extremes, I just happen to prefer one over the other {I'm talking about the one that involves soaking my feet and getting pampered.}

But sometimes in life and love, you do things for other people that you wouldn't otherwise do. I'm going because 1] my husband loves it and would love for me to come along. He might change his mind about this when I end up tagging along but am extremely unhelpful or when I'm freezing my tooshie off next to him and just want to go inside. But he did ask me to go and I won't let him forget it :) And 2] It's been 3 weeks since I've seen my bro and his fiancee and I miss them like crazy. So if I have to wear a camo hat, a men's camo fleece jacket, and an old pair of jeans and sit outside and be one with nature, then so be it. Girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

All joking aside, I'm excited for the weekend! I'm excited to hang out with the people I love and hunting's not so bad. I went out with P for a few hours last Saturday which was a beautiful day and we had a blast. Hunting is a great excuse to be outside and I brought my new DSLR camera so I could practice with different settings, exposures, etc. In honor of my upcoming weekend, I thought I'd share some of the pictures I took. If you ask me, North Dakota looks pretty darn pretty here. Picturesque, I like to call it. Now before you go all judgemental about ND stereotypes on me here, these are pictures that I took after we drove over 40 miles outside of city limits. No, ND is not one big farm and no, this is not what it looks like when I look out my window {that is a whole different story for a whole different post}. Yes, our winters can be horrible and no, we don't have many tall buildings or shows. But there's something I find very peaceful about these pictures. Enjoy :)

Oh, you want more pictures of me hunting last weekend? Like I said, I spent a lot of the time practicing with my camera (or taking selfies). But, I went so I could spend time with that handsome man pictured below :) Oh, and I shot his shotgun twice. First time for everything.

Do you have any big plans for the weekend? Tell me about them! Or give me hunting tips if you've got them!

Make sure you stop back tomorrow! While I'm freezing or getting dirty or drinking you can read about one of our favorite go-to recipes. And hey, did you notice I finally wrote about our "love story"? Took me long enough.

  3. If your part of ND is close to mine it is going to be gross out so good luck hunting :-) I just got home from Fargo and it is so windy and cold out :-(

  4. Love these photos!! What were you hunting?! Also, for when it's cold get a neck gator (I know, I had never heard of it either, but your husband should know what it is)! It's basically like, a beanie for your neck, and you can pull it up over your face, and it keeps you sooooo warm! Warmer than you'd think!
